Julie Winokur

Director / Producer / Cinematographer

Julie Winokur has been a storyteller for over two decades, first as a magazine writer and then as a documentary filmmaker. She launched Talking Eyes Media in 2002 as a way to focus on creating visual media that catalyzes positive social change. Her work has appeared on PBS (Aging in America, Firestorm), the Documentary Channel (Firestorm), MediaStorm, National Geographic Magazine and Discovery online, as well as in The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, The Washington Post, and MSNBC.com. She has received two Emmy nominations and numerous awards from World Press, Pictures of the Year International and the Society for Professional Journalists. Beyond broadcast and publication, Winokur works extensively with nonprofit organizations to develop their messages and put Talking Eyes' films to work at the grassroots level. She has been on faculty at Rutgers University-Newark and the International Center of Photography in New York.

 
 
 
 

Ed Kashi

Cinematographer

Ed Kashi is an Iraqi-American photojournalist, filmmaker, speaker, and educator dedicated to documenting the social and political issues that define our times. As a member of VII Photo Agency, Kashi has been recognized for his complex imagery and its compelling rendering of the human condition. Through his photography and filmmaking, along with his work as a mentor, teacher and lecturer, Kashi is a leading voice in the photojournalism and visual storytelling community. He was recognized by Pictures of the Year International as 2015’s Multimedia Photographer of the Year and his clients include National Geographic, The New Yorker, and MSNBC. Kashi’s images have been broadcast, published, and exhibited worldwide. He has produced eight books, including Photojournalisms, Curse of the Black Gold, Aging in America, and THREE.

Katharine Garrison

Editor

Katharine Garrison edited the documentary feature, United Skates, which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival and won the audience award. The film had its international premiere at Hot Docs and was the closing night film at the LA Film Festival and AFI Docs. It made the 2018 IDA shortlist and was acquired by HBO. Katharine has created stories for multiple companies including PBS, NBA Entertainment, IFC, AMC Networks, the Sundance Channel, Bravo, Women’s Entertainment and Oxygen Media. While at AMC Networks, Garrison edited an Emmy Award-nominated short documentary, as well as produced and edited digital video for the Emmy Award-winning series’ Breaking Bad, Mad Men, The Walking Dead, The Killing, Hell On Wheels and Rubicon. Katharine holds an MFA in film from Columbia University and has been a part of several teaching and mentorship programs in New York and New Jersey. Having worked in most genres, long-form documentary film remains her true love.

 
 
 

Stephanie Khoury

Associate Editor

Stephanie Khoury is a documentary editor and producer and was just named a Karen Schmeer Diversity in the Edit Room Mentee for 2019. Stephanie recently edited Death Metal Grandma, which premiered at SXSW, was selected as a New York Times OpDoc, and will screen at the American Pavilion Emerging Filmmakers Showcase at Cannes 2019. She was an Associate Producer on Kitty and Ellen, which screened at DocNYC. Her passion for sports and storytelling took her to Sochi, Russia for the 2014 Olympic Winter Games with NBC Sports and to SuperBowl LII in Minneapolis. Stephanie graduated with a B.A. in Documentary Studies and Production and minors in Art and Environmental Studies from Ithaca College.

Cat McGrath

Impact Producer

Cat McGrath is a producer and journalist with over a decade of experience crafting national stories about education for PBS and nonprofit organizations. Her work includes videos on the opioid epidemic, dyslexia, federal education grants, school leaders, music and the arts, as well as a full length PBS documentary about technology in the classroom. She’s passionate about telling stories with social relevance to viewers who are in a position to actualize change. Prior to her work in education, Cat produced for A&E, The History Channel, and KRON4 TV in S.F. where she got her start in film and video production.
